Chasing El Nino
1. What is El Nino?
El Nino is an abnormal warming of surface waters in the eastern tropical Pacific.
2. How is it studied? What specific things are measured and how?
It is studied by using buoys. Temperature is measured by water sensors.
3. What are its effects?
Its effects are causing rain to turn into ice, forest fires into raging infernos, climate changes, flooding, etc.
4. What causes El Nino?
There is no clear cause of El Nino.
5. How are models used to determine when they will occur and how strong they will be?
Models are used by data before and trying to predict what will happen.
6. How can we study the past to understand the future?
If we can learn what happened in the past, we can predict what will happen in the future to be better prepared.

Summary
What was one interesting thing you learned today?
I thought it was interesting how there is no clear cause on what causes El Nino. Throughout the years that El Nino was discovered, no one could place a finger on what caused it. You would think that we would be trying to figure out what caused it due to some of the disasters, but no.
